Processors

I'm currently running a Q9300 w/ 4gb of ram, but I'm curious as to whether server processors (Xeon etc..) do a better job of hosting game servers as oppose to stream line processors (q9300, q9550, etc) or whether there is any difference. AND I know, that for a GSP, Xeon or server processors would be the way to go for more servers / slots, but as for 3 or 4 privates, would I notice a performance difference.

the xeons and core2s share much of the same architecture. in terms of game hosting, the biggest difference is that with xeons, you can run two physical cpus in parallel. in a single cpu scenario, given the same clock speeds, it is unlikely you will see much of a difference between the two.

Not exactly true, Intel released the Skulltrail Motherboard that allows two core 2s to be used in tandem.

interesting. i would hazard a guess those are actually just renamed xeons with a hefty price tag slapped on, but i don't know for sure. the specs are virtually identical.

If you really look at the specs it supports Dual LGA 771 Smile
