How To Make Your Server Popular
#1
Step 1 -
Grab a few friends and jump onto your server, make sure its on a popular map, it doesnt have to be a cal map or dust 2 or inferno ect.

Step 2 -
Once your server has about 3 people including you and your friends, your friends friends should see there friend playing a game and would go to join them, that just gets repeated over and over again.

Step 3 -
Be Friendly! dont be a noob and complain, talk to the people on your server, make friends with them, this would make them be regulars

Step 4 -
Dont abuse your admin, dont slap players when they kill you, use your mic if you have one, im sure they have a mic too, Next add them to friends, talk to them, ask them if they would like any particular map.

Step 5 -
Make your name good, thats the first impression of your server
If you run 100tick put it in your name, if not leave it out.
If your server only runs 1 map put it in the name

Example of a good name - "John Doe's cs_office 24/7 100tick *512fps*"
Example of a bad name - "John Doe 33tick server NO NOOBS, NOOBS WILL BE BANNED"

Server Hints -

1. Get a GameTracker Account for your server
2. Don't be a ass hole, no one likes an ass hole
3. DO NOT USE UNESSERSARY ADMIN
4. DO NOT USE UNESSERSARY ADMIN
5. Be nice
6. Ban hackers swiftly

Another good tip is if you run a clan, to tell people how good they are, and invite them into your clan. When I go to a server, and they ignore me when I talk to them, I usually just leave. Primarily, just let the people in your server feel like they want to save the server to favorites Wink

Also, if you run multiple servers, number them. For example I have 4 servers so my theory is that if someone likes my orange maps (server 2) server then they might go looking for server 1 next time they play and accidentally find server 3 or 4 and so on. 2 and 3 are my most popular. So the players on them will know theres multiple Epic Banana Clan servers. Server 1 is often filled with people i already know.

I disagree btw beaver, inviting people into your clan on the basis of making your server popular is a very slippery slope to becomming a big community and will greatly annoy other members of a tight nit clan.

I think being friendly is definately key. Some people dont care if your server is 1fps or 2million. They care about who is in there and who isn't(hackers, spammers, annoying d-bags). The key to running a successful clan/community is dedication really. If you have a desire to make it popular through time and patience it will eventually get there. Lets face when everyone and there mother is making a 24/7 dust2 server its the little things that set you apart. You also gotta understand your audience. If your server is in NewYork expect alot of NewYork and east coast based players. Just my thoughts..
