Dedicated Servers?
#1
I am looking to buy a dedicated server. But which company should I buy from? I want it to be as affordable as it can, but still be able to run srcds, Apache, and MySQL, with minimal lag. Which place should I buy from, or am I on the completely wrong track?

I did, I made my own console server on my home computer. It works great, it had MySQL, mani, cssdm, and Apache. But I want to have full uptime. Windows is unstable, and I can't guarantee full uptime, because my internet is retarded. I want a more reliable server. So can you please get me some suggestions for companies to buy from, instead of assuming my situation?

Information like, RAM, which Linux distro, processor, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Well the specs depend on how many servers, if its just the one then I would highly recommend a Intel Core 2 Duo, I would go for a 2Ghz+ one along with 2GB ram. Linux distro, I'm not too sure because that isn't my area however I know Ubuntu Server 8 is very good out of the box, does 1000FPS on most setups without any modifcations apart from the usual SRCDS settings.

I find Windows fine once you do a fair bit of testing, finding out what works best with what. Our Windows boxes auto restart every week now which keeps them happy.

If you are looking for a dedi in the UK I can recommend a few hosts. Smile

I looked into http://www.WebNX.com. They seem to have very good deals, but might be a tad bit overpriced compared to just going with a GSP. Good luck!

I had a server with ServerPronto a while back and it worked fine for web services, but I wouldn't suggest it for a game server. The network is primarily Cogent and had frequent downtime and latency issues.

What about iWeb? I am trying to get the cheapest I can, but still be reliable.
