Latency on my L4D server is through the roof (200ms+). Traceroute to the users IP usually accounts 70 to 100ms latency, ping reveals the same. Where is the other ~100ms coming from? Even connecting to the server through the LAN I get ~70ms ping. If I change the server to run hl2dm or CSS and connect over LAN I only get ~5ms ping. What could cause only L4D to be so high? It's running at 30fps with tweaked kernel 2.6.27 on Debian Sid.

High pings can also be caused by srcds not processing the incoming data fast enough thus causing loss thus casusing higher ping. What can cause srcds to run slow you may ask it is a lac of hardware prorformance

The machine is a Pentium 4 @ 2.4 GHz with 512 MB of RAM. It's only a Northwood with a 400MHz FSB, but it runs the server at 30FPS, which I'm told is the frame rate cap. It never goes over 40% CPU usage (usually sits around 25 to 30%) and only uses some 30% RAM. This is the only task on the server, it does nothing else.
