After renting game servers from various companies for the last few years I am considering renting a dedicated box. What I am looking for and need some input on is what type of hardware configuration i should be looking for.
I would like a windows box that can run 100 ~150 slots of source based games that are boosted, without being overloaded.
So my questions would be.
Xeon dual core or quad Core?
2gigs or 4 gigs of ram?
Would 2000 gigs of transfer per month be enough for gameplay? My FTP for maps and such would be at a different location.

Depends on the games. a 2.4GHz Quad core can run 4 full 24-man TF2 servers. However you'll get more slots out of other games.
As for ram, 2 gigs should be fine. 2000 gigs of transfer should be good. Most dedicated server offer about 1000, so you shouldn't have problems.

I was thinking about running a 26 slot TF2 pub, A 16 slot TF2 pub, a 16 slot "private" TF2 that would only be used for matches, 2 L4D servers and a HL2 mod server.
A 2.4 Ghz Quad Core is one of the servers I was looking at. It comes with 2 gigs of ram, 250gig HDD and 3000 gigs of transfer per month.
While doing some research for this I have run across companies that claim theirs are the best because they are optimized for gaming, and some that claim that theirs are optimized for media content hosting which as well makes them good for gaming.
I figure as long as its a good machine on Internap I shouldn't have any problems.
Any suggestions or testimonials for companies, if its permitted?

I would think that should be fine. Maybe run your TF2 servers at 33 tick, I can run 4 32 slots, 33 tick TF2 servers on a 2.4Ghz Quad.

with the same processor that FearTx has would there be any problems with running 2 11slot 100tick css private servers on each core and how many 100 tick css slots could you run on one of the quad

I would say around 150 slots @ 100 tick. 30 - 40 per core.

Core2Quad, 2 GB RAM, 250 GB HDD, 2000GB BW, 10 MB port, Windows 08, And NOT TCADMIN (Unless you are running a GSP), I recommend gamecreate.com (We give it to our customers free).
The above configuration should do ya.
what location are you looking for? I can probably give you a cheaper price.

Location would probably be Dallas. I am hung up on Internap connectivity. Not because I know about these things, just because the Game Servers that I have rented before that were hosted on machines on Internap out did ones that were hosted on other "premium" connections.
This most likely will not happen till after the Holidays. I am one of those guys that begins shopping for something in advance of buying it.
I was looking at TCA basically "incase" i decided to sell a GameServer to offset some of the cost of this endeavor.
