Server "rapid restarts"
#1
Ok, I've been searching for the past two days to try and get this fixed and I haven't found a thing. I'm sure the answers there somewhere but I just can't find it.

Anyways...

I punch in ./srcds_run with all the command arguments and whatnot, and no matter what I do the same thing always happens, as soon as the server config file is executed the whole process restarts. It literally says "server_cvar: 'sv_stopspeed' '75'" then Executing dedicated server config file, and it just loops over and over, neverending.

Specs of the system:
Ubuntu Server 8.10 x64 (And yes, I do have the x32 compatibility packages installed)
2gb of ram
2.2ghz processor

I honestly have no idea what's causing this... If anyone could even give me a remote clue it would be greatly appreciated.

tl;dr: Server restarts indefinitely after running the server config file. Somehow I'm doin it rong.

No mods at all, haven't even gotten the server to run once. Also, is there a way to disable the 'autorestart' feature? So when the server does crash it doesn't automatically restart, I may be able to find a bit more information that way. Here's my server.cfg file (passwords changed of course):

try temporarily removing the server cfg and see if it stays running, that way u can see if it's actually the cfg causing the restart

also, kind of a standard thing to run the update with -verify_all

Since this is a linux sever, I think all you have to do to keep it from auto-restarting on crash is to take -autoupdate out of the srcds_run line

Hmm, I don't have -autoupdate on the srcds_run line, but at any rate, I went ahead and just redid the whole server, reformatted, setup my RAID array, re-downloaded the cstrike files, etc etc etc.

It seems to be working now, at least I think, it says:
World triggered "Round_Start"
Connection to Steam servesr successful.
VAC secure mode is activated

Does this mean the server is up and running? I don't see it in my server list (I know there's a ton of posts about "cannot connect to my server from internet!", I just want to make sure this means the server is indeed up and running). I can type in commands, and change the map, but I still don't see it in the global server list. So I have two questions:
1) Is there a way to have the server spit out the map it's currently on and the name it's running under (to make sure it picked up the name from the server.cfg file)
2) About how long should it take to register with the Steam servers?

Thanks guys.

Ok, I did what you said, and it works. I was also able to connect using "connect 192.168.0.191" in the console, however I can't see it in my Lan tab (I assume because sv_lan is set to 0) and I can't see it in the global server list, so I guess it's just on to working with the "Cant get on server from internet" thread.

I do have just two more stupid questions though:
1) Does it take a while for the Steam servers to update? I'm thinking maybe they update every hour or something, and THAT's why I'm not seeing it.
2) Is there any reason why, if the server is on the same network as my desktop (both are connected to the same router) that it wouldn't show up in my server list because of that? I really don't think it would... But I just want to check. As well, should I be able to connect using my global/external IP? Meaning, if I type in "connect <router ip>" I should still be able to connect even if my desktop is on the network as well right?

Did you forward the port 27015 (or whatever game port your using) through your firewall to the server?

My server is set to sv_lan 0 and it does not appear in the "LAN" tab in the server browser. It will not show up on the server list at all because it is on the same lan as you and the serverborwser uses external IP addresses. The only way to "find" a server on your LAN is to add it manually using internal IP address.
