Cannot update anything
#1
I have read several responses on this on several different forums, but nothing seems to work...help me out guys.

I am trying to use the latest hldsupdatetool with the new command syntax.

When I run
"./steam -update "counter-strike:source" /home/source/srcds user@domain.com password"

I get
Quote:"Checking bootstrapper version ...
Updating Installation
Login failed. This account does not exist, or the password is incorrect."
If I assume my account is screwed, I try and create a new one with:

"./steam -create user@domain.com password question answer"

I get

Quote:Checking bootstrapper version ...
Creating Account
AuthenticationServerRSAPublicKey failed signature verifcation

I have tried dozens of permutations of command syntax. Nothing on the forums here or steampowered seems to work. I have tried grabbing the latest files from valve's ftp, but the readme on there is dated from September.

Hopefully it is something simple and retarded that I am missing. Let me know if you have any ideas.

the syntax you're using is the old syntax (unless valve have changed it back to that, which i don't believe to be the case)

additionally, the proper argument for -game is "counter-strike source", not "counter-strike:source". it's case insensitive but it will throw a fit over the colon.

you need to be using something like this:

./steam -command update -dir . -game "Counter-Strike Source" -username username -password password
knoid || Admin, joe.to gaming community
tf2.joe.to - challenge maps
tf4.joe.to - custom maps

Thanks for the advice guys, but things are still not working...

BTW, this is with the latest hldsupdate.bin tool that you get from steampowered.com (as outlined in the srcds.com tutorials from the homepage)

The syntax is definitely different than what knoid speaks of, it spits this back if I try his command:

Use:

Create a Steam Account:
-create <username> <password> <question> <answer>

Install or update HLDS:
-update <game> <installdir> <username> [<password> [Y]]
Y => remember password

View installed versions:
-version

Regardless, I got it running properly from an older version of the update tool that I found mirrored on some other set of forums. It just seems odd that steampowered is hosting files that don't work.

the hldsupdatetool on the steampowered site is STONEAGE, its the first ever out, use the 1 from my tutorial on this site, or the 1 site from my signature (hlds_l install guide) remove the .steam dir in the user homedir you run the tool then run it again.
To be (an admin), or not to be (an admin), that is the Question.
