Unable to Join my own Left 4 Dead dedicated server
#1
Hey, I made a left 4 dead server on ubuntu server edition(not sure which version) and everything went all well until I went to join it myself. Valve's matchmaker does it's best to keep the server filled but I would like to hop on every once in a while to see how it's doing and just to play on it.

Anyways, my server is on my network, I try to connect to it and it fails 3 different ways.

1st way, when I type "connect 192.168.1.XX:27015 (server ip)" into the console it goes to the page where it shows everyone's roles but it just hangs there without loading anything.

2nd way, when I click join from the friend's lobby thing it "Fails after 10 retries"

3rd way, I connect to it using my internet ip, it goes the roles page and gets farther than when I connect locally but it also hangs without doing anything.

I know other people can join because I see people in all the time and the console even shows me connecting whenever I try. I went to a friends and tried to connect there as well and it gets through with no problem. I'm guessing it has to do with it my client being on the same network as the host?

Does you IP really start with 192.168.1? Because that's your internal network address.

Visit http://www.whatsmyips.com for your real IP.

If you have the sv_allow_lobby_connect_only convar enabled in the config, which sets the server to use Steam's matchmaking system, it disables direct connect by IP, so that's why options 1 and 3 fail. Why you're unable to join it off your friends list... well, that's rather strange...

I also have this problem. I haven't tried connecting from a different location but i would assume it works because the rest of UnderestimateD's description meets mine.

sv_allow_lobby_connect_only doesn't seem to do anything.

I can join my server when it is empty but when 2 or 3 are in it fails after 10 retries

I think i found it...
sv_allow_lobby_connect_only 0
AND
sv_allow_wait_command 0

i don't know what exactly the wait command does but it seems to let me connect to my own server. I then tried to do "sv_allow_lobby_connect_only 1" just to check that it does anything and i was unable to connect again so these two commands must go together. Why valve decided to make these options enabled by default is beyond me.
