PLEASE HELP ME!!!

hi i am trying to run a dedicated server from home but whenever i get a few people joining i get loads of high pings, i think it might be to do with server cfg setting like maxupdate etc.. but i dont know how to set these, computer specs as follows
athlon64 3000+ cpu
2gig ddr400 mem
160 gig SATA hdd
3meg ntl cable modem i think with upload @ 400k
i have a 16 player slot server but dont know how to set the cfg file any ideas?
any help really appreciated i dont know y pings r so high as i read people can run at least 3 servers of 1 cable modem with good pings?
also i do use a second computer to play cs:s which shares b/band connection on a network, server has main connection and game pc runs off a crossover cable tho ive heard this should not make much of a difference

I used that to set mine. Helped me alot. My DSL goes at 320, and pings used to go high, like 500's high with 3 people, but now they stay ~100 with 6 people.

Sniper, maybe the people you are reading about are in a different country. In the UK we are limited by upload speed, you wont support many people on such a limited upload no matter what tweaking you do.

do you think i can run a 14 man server happily though with the specs i have given and any suggestions on cfg setting?

try a 6 man server and expect lag.

Honestly, no.

You should figure for about 55 kbps per player. so if you divide your 400 up by 55, you'd have 7, which would probably end up being you max number of players.

i may try and change ISP provider any ideas of a uk one thats good for running a server? ps i dont have a BT phone line tho'
well im gonna downgrade my server to 10 slots a bit high i know but thats the min i need

There are no UK ISP's with high upload speeds for home users.
The only way you will get it is to look for SDSL which has the same upload and download speed ... but your talking a few hundred a month for such speed.

ntl 3 meg has 300k upload


buy a sb4100 cable modem

look up mac cloning


try to make a multi modem server??
