2000 & 3000 FPS?
#31
Sure 1000 fps does make a difference but some gsps that say they are selling a 1000 fps actually are misleading and you end up with a crappy server that does end to be anywhere near 1000 fps.And honestly 2000 and 1000 fps you would have to be crazy as hell to notice the difference, just addressing the original post again.

Only recently did we get the equipment (read CPU power) available to run ACTUAL stable 1000FPS servers. Now most GSP's I know don't own this equipment and sell normal servers as if they are 1000FPS, which they are not!

Now, 2000 and 3000 FPS are out of the question, of course you can run at those high timer resolutions but you won't ever be able to get it stable (not on the servers anyway).

What hardware would this be?

As ive achieved a 1000fps on an overclocked Q6600 (3ghz) with 4GB ram before.

Any links to stats or information on this ?

No, it came from valves developer wiki.

Are you saying its wrong?

iliketohostservers Wrote:If you record a demo and then watch the demo afterwards, you can change a setting in your console to view the hitboxes while watching the demo.
How could there be a difference when you can't get more than 100 updates/sec anyway?
iliketohostservers Wrote:I've experienced this in-game while playing as well. On 500FPS I can shoot behind people and kill them, not significantly behind them, only by a small amount.
This is the interpolation bug your taking about...
Thats a big part of why we do tick100 instead of tick33 in competative gaming.

iliketohostservers Wrote:And, if I peak from behind a box, after I stop peaking, the enemy can shoot and still kill me. They kill me where I USED TO BE, not where I currently am on my screen. That is because at 250/500 FPS the hitboxes are not keeping up with the actual models... on 1000 FPS the server is much better about this and it almost ceases to happen.
The game models are unforuenately coded that way.
The differences can be seen in ineye vs. srctv demos.
This is a bug oftenly used in competative gaming. Often iney demos are a must even on LAN's because SrcTV cant get this.
More and more leagues disalow this use of the bug. None of the leagues request 1000fps servers as a soulution.

iliketohostservers Wrote:However in casual public servers it is not a major concern or noticeable to most players. But in competitive play with very skilled and professional gamers (CAL/CEVO) it is a major concern because the enemy can shoot behind you and still kill you.

Please pay more attention before you keep telling people there is no difference.
... oh, but I am a competative player, and have been for some years.

iliketohostservers Wrote:There are almost 100 companies in the USA selling boosted servers 500/1000fps... there has to be a difference or so many of these companies would not be in business.
It fooled you, right?
If I said and could prove I could offer 1,000,000FPS servers... Wouln't you preffer that over a 1,000fps server for the same price?
Achive a 1000fps is easy, so why not offer it when the customers think they need one?

iliketohostservers Wrote:I think some of the people spreading these rumors that there is no difference past 100 FPS (because of the tickrate rumor), are people representing companies who do NOT sell boosted servers, and therefor they want people to think the other companies are ripping them off. That is not true... anyone who takes the game seriously and really tries hard can and will notice a difference
I don't sell servers, and have never made a nickel on it or ever will.
But I do like to experient, optimize and test things before I say things.

Wiki's aren't allways correct. All peoples can edit them, with useless information that's even not correct.(Like wikipedia.org).

Amateurs can edit it at their own will and they add stuff which ain't correct.

So, not everything in there is correct, but proberly most of it is!

you do realize that this is on the valve page right, this isnt coming from wikipedia and valve wouldnt let anything on there. Wikipedia has the be the best resource on the web because everything on wiki has to be cited from somewhere like a college book or an article from creditable source and it says right on the top of the page if it is lacking where the info came from.

I know it's VALVe's Wiki, but it could still contain wrong information! That's one of the reasons why SRCDS doesn't have one, it's a hell to make sure it's right!

but valve can make sure its right because the have a paid stuff to do it

Yes, that's right. But it's still a WIKI and you can't be sure on it's right or wrong!

Ok i didnt realize it was on Valve's Wiki...

You are right, it is confusing...

however, there is a difference between 100 FPS and 1000 FPS.

I havn't used many 2000 FPS, only a few and they felt speedy, like the gameplay was faster, it also felt like I had no recoil. Not really good in my oppinion, it felt strange.

But trust me janne there's a difference at 1000 FPS. As I said before, all those thousands of CAL/CEVO gamers can't be brainwashed man... there's a reason they ALL want 1000FPS or higher.

And really try the hitbox thing on a lower FPS where you peak quickly then hide again, if they shoot you right when you hide and kill you - thats due to the low FPS.

Ok this is from a interpolation bug? Well it happens on 100tick, not just 33tick. It almosts doesnt happen on 1000fps, but whenever I use 500fps or lower I notice it a lot.

Actually you can get 1,000,000 FPS but it isn't playable, Monk from Summit Servers (Who is soon offering 2,000 and 3,000 FPS servers) achieved 1,000,000 FPS. There is a point where the FPS is too high, and that was too high, he claimed the game was unplayable.

Ok your a competitive player? What do you compete in?

I am not fooled, I host servers and run my own company...
1000 FPS is not just a way for us to make more money. 1000 FPS uses a significant more amount of CPU resources, that's what FPS is... it allows the game server to use more CPU. The reason we offer 1000 FPS is because so many gamers like it, and request it. In CAL/CEVO, easily 60-70% of the private game servers used are 1000 FPS... it's not a scam dude.

"How could there be a difference when you can't get more than 100 updates/sec anyway?"
-Your forgetting each player sends packets to/from the game server, the more players there are - the harder it is on the server. Raising the FPS makes the server work faster and harder which allows for more up to date real-time play.

its not that they are brain washed its just that one guy notices something like crouching thing and then blows it out of proportion. Sure there might be some small things but overall a 500 fps server is perfect, i have always used 500 fps and never had a complaint about reg from all the scrims i have done. Overall if you have a server with good specs and quality bandwidth then a 500 fps server would work fine. also i wouldnt pay that extra money for it

lol im not blowing it out of proportion... if people can shoot where you were 1ms ago and kill you--it matters..especially in league play.

you ever notice how you get shot, and die, and all of a sudden your model is where you were 1 second ago? i swear that almost never happens on 1000fps

it isnt just that, raising the FPS lowers your in-game latency a bit which is shown on the scoreboard with a slightly lower ping.

and it does reg better, on 500fps i notice reg is better when more of the players are dead, probably because the server has less work to do, but on 1000fps i dont notice this at all.

i run game gameservers as well, and must say 1000fps is overall better. Again, better reg, lower latency, etc. However, any higher, i cant tell a difference. All these people say how their 2000 and 3000 fps servers are nice, and reg nice, and are way better than 1000fps, its all in the mind. ive been on many 2000fps servers, and cant tell a difference from 2000 to 1000fps. Its all in the mind. . . and an excuse when ppl claim lag/no reg on gameservers.

Agreed! I feel less latency when I play on 1000FPS servers.(And it's shown on the net_graph too)

I never said you were blowing anything out of proportion like i said some guy, i am pretty sure your not the first person to notices this.

I reckon, 1000fps upwards is pointless.
