SRCDS Steam group


Another cant join from internet problem....

Hi all,
My first post here. Smile I have looked through quite a few other posts here with the same problem. I have tried some advice and still I have this problem.

I am running a srcds at my home network. I have 2mBit Upload, so I figured that would be nice Smile The server is running on XP Pro SP3. Specs are 4200+Dual core AM2, 1Gig DDR2 667Mhz.

I am trying to run CS source I can see the server in the lan section, but it doesnt show in the master server list. My friends can connect occasionally. When i give them my external IP (which is static) the server seems like it is not responding to them. But occasionally they will get through.

I launch srcds like this "C:\Games\SRCDS\srcds.exe -console -game cstrike -tickrate 66 -port 27015 -maxplayers 17 +map de_dust2 +mp_dynamicpricing 0" I have tried with and without -ip 192.168.0.3.
If I put my external IP here it cannot bind to ports.

I am behind a DG834N Netgear router. I have all outbound ports opened by default. The following inbound ports are forwarded to my internal IP, 192.168.0.3
UDP 1200
UDP 27000-27041
TCP 27000-27041
DHCP is off, and I told the WAN port to respond to ping request's.

I have tried various ways of forwarding the ports by using the ranges above, and also by forwarding each port seperately. Makes no difference either way.

I am running the server with mani admin mod installed with metamod source. Here is my server output when I launch, maybe you can see something there.

Maybe I am missing something silly..... I have no firewalls on the server PC, windows firewall is off and service disabled!

If you wouldnt mind mayber you can try connecting to the server, it seems unresponsive but if you spam the join/refresh buttons you can eventually get in..... This makes me think the ports should be ok or they just would not get through period. See what you think....

basically atm I have 3 port forwarding entries

1 = 1200 UDP
2 = 27000-27050 UDP
3 = 27000-27050 TCP

I have also tried forwarding each port seperately.

edit: I just rang up my ISP, O2.co.uk and they say they are not blocking any ports their end and they fully support gaming.....

OK here are some screenies.

With my router (Netgear DG834N) there are 2 "phases" to port forwarding.
Firstly you need to create some services with the appropriate ports and then you need to add those services to the firewall rules.

So I made my first service 1200 UDP (hlds1 service.jpg)
I made my second service 27000-27050 TCP/UDP (hlds2 service.jpg)

Then there is a screeny of all my services (services.jpg) Note: these are not active unless added to the firewall rules.

Then I added the service hlds1 to the firewall rules (hlds1 firewall rule.jpg)
Then I added the service hlds2 to the firewall rules (hlds2 firewall rule.jpg)

Then there is a screeny of all my active firewall rules (firewall rules.jpg)

As far as I am aware its still not working.

I read elsewhere on this forum that I wouldnt be able to see my server in the internet tab if I am on the same LAN as the server. Is that true? I dont think that was the case with HLDS.

Well hope that helps as I am truly stumped. I have run many servers in the past without a problem. Mostly racing simulations.

Ok. I have now tested all the ports with Quetannon and all of my ports are open and reachable. I had to change port 1200 to TCP/UDP. So it seems my router is working correctly.

Is there anything else that can be causing my problem? There must be some config parameter set wrong somewhere. PLease Help me ......

Also when people are connected to the server Pings seem quite high, like over 150, when it should be around 40. Is 1Gig of ram adequate for a 16 player CS:S server?

While this might be possible, it is illegal to use a key inwhich you do not have legal ownership of. Doing so in business would be very BAD idea.
