Nope, no pluggins.

complete straight forward install.

Steps i took are :

Wget > hldsupdate
chmod +x ... blah
./hldsupdate....
./steam -command update -game hl2mp

then tryed to run with a default map...

Can you run this please:

steam -command update -game hl2mp -dir whatever_your_dir_is -verify_all

Let's make sure you're working with all of the files with all of the right versions.

P.S. you're trying to run it as the correct login and not as root right?

nope none of the above ...

I was running as root but i used root to do all the install in the first place just to get it running how i wanted.
I have just done install and setup as a diferent user and i still get the same problems.
The Verify all did not come back with any problems.
Could this possibly be just a hardware problem? I havet had any other odd problems but the server does not do a lot except a few daily scripts.
