How to increase map download size?
#1
Hey I'm running a server how can I increase the download limit for maps? I want to upload maps that are like 15 MB
Also how can I increase the max upload? I am on lan with the server and it's downloading slow, like 100 Kb/s. When it's on a 1 Gb/s lan.
Also one last note is it possible to redirect to a http server?

Yes, sv_download.
That's how you make downloads faster, forward it to a http server Smile

Wait so to redirect it to a http server, I would do... sv_download http://something.com\file.bsp right?

No, it has to be: sv_download http://something.com\file.bsp.bz2

.bz2, is the compressed format Smile

Use a script to compress it.

sv_download "http:\\mywebsite.com\game"
Then put the maps in game\maps\

Ok I got me a web host, so in my server.cfg it looks like this
sv_download http://www.drivehq.com/file/df.aspx/sesIDumml40bdjb4bd2e0x3h031fl/shareID4776007/fileID234774513/RP_HomeTown2000.bsp.bz2
This goes in the server.cfg correct?

Then inside my server's maps folder has RP_HomeTown2000.bsp

Or does is it supposed to look like this?
sv_downloadurl http://www.drivehq.com/file/df.aspx/publish/jigglywiggly/obsidian
Inside that obsidian folder it goes to maps > then the file
(Obsidian=game)

You can't use a free host. Not enough bandwidth. There are some free/cheap sv_download sites out there though.

Well the one I was using just now, was pretty fast when I downloaded from it. Except I noticed that after 20 minutes your file goes away : / Any free sv_download sites in mind? The file is only 10 megabytes compressed and the same people usually play in my server. Problem is uploading at 220 KB/s from my server will make everyone else lag.

Before I accept any offers, I have my own ftp server. so ftp://myipadress has an anonymous account that logs in automatically.
So at the end of my server.cfg I wrote
sv_downloadurl http://ftp.24.4.etc.etc
inside there is a folder called maps and then the file itself
I don't think it was working, does it only work with a http one? If so that sucks, because I already have port 80 mapped.
Or as an alternate I could use http://24.4.etc.etc:8080 would that work? I can give up port 8080.

are you running both the web & game server from your home?

You bet.
The reason I wanted to do the website thing mainly is because of the .bz2 compression. The map without is 35 megs. With it, it's 11 megabytes.

well running both from your home will cause the game server to lag.

Yeah I know, but it's better than nothing. Also I just realized I have comcast internet, so that also means I can probably use the ftp they offer.
