Laggy Server? would upgrading...
#1
well hi Big Grin
im new here. Just recently got my server up thanks to allot of reading from this site.
The problem is that it lags allot and it seems to only lag when i join in (i am gaming on the same computer)
Also, its not high ping. my ping stays at like 45, but it just is choppy.
I had a friend tell me that only when i joined it started lagging. But there was never more than 4 people in the server so i dont know if it lags even without me if it reaches higher than that.

my question is this.
My computer is fairly slow. It only has 512 mb of memory.
So would adding a 1gb memory card help out at all? I dont think the problem is my internet connection or bandwidth because its 15+MB download connection and 1.8+mb upload (verizon fios)

so what do you guys think?!
Thanks allot

o btw.. i had it on 66 tic, then i changed it to 33 and both were choppy. thought 33 was a little less

Get a box to run the server on. Don't game and run a server on the same computer.

Another computer. I use "box" because "server" can be confused with software. It's a bit better then calling it a "rig" Toungue

lol..ya
ok thanks Big Grin
one question, does it need to be a really fast computer?!
if the internet connection is the same 15+mb and 1.8+
but the computer is slow would it work, or does the computer need to be a fast one?!

You should be able to run a small server with that bandwidth. I'll let someone who's better at CS:S to answer the rest...

small server would be like what?
12 ppl at -66?

also, what do you guys think the minimum comp requirments to run a server would be?
nothing below 512? or is 512 too slow even?

You need at least 1 gigabyte of ram, also a nice dual core cpu is preferable. Also one of the most important, make sure it is a fast hard drive. I do raid 5 on my servers.

Dual core doesn't really help when running only one server. SRCDS is not multi-core optimized so it will only use one core. When working with dual core (or higher) it's important that each core is powerful (above 2.2GHz).
