Can someone help me move my TF2 server to the internet tab?
#1
I made a server yesterday and followed a guide exactly and I searched google for literally 8 hours trying to find an answer but I couldn't find one and happened upon this forum.. I know it's always going to be in the LAN tab but I can't see it in the internet tab and I tried all that sv_lan changelevel crap. Also: my friends can't connect when they tried to join the server using the friends list. One of my friends told me, "Of course we can't connect and you can, you're connecting to yourself." I'm not sure how to make my server use my external ip or anything like that.. so can any of you guys help me?

Yeah I forwarded 27005 - 27015 or something. But what does that have to do with me connecting to myself or anything?

You need to add +hostport 27015 to your command line for you to be able to enter yourself. As for your friends itsyour ports. You havent opened then.

forward 27020 also its
Code:
tv_port
( i thought it was the port that checks up ur server status )

(tv_port is an command ingame i'm not sure if its also in tf2, its in gmod but it runs at the same engine and it seems a quite regular port then )

So what exactly would I be doing? I need to foward 27020 and use tv_port in game or on my file's properties?

Make sure when you run srcds to add the switch +hostport 27015 or -port 27015.

I forwarded my 27020 port and I put +hostport in my file's properties. I'm checking to see if my server's up. I opened the server about 40 mins ago so let's see if it worked!

If the server is on your LAN, it will ALWAYS show LAN for you. Others should see in on the internet.

While that is true, they didn't see it at all and I couldn't see it on the internet tab at all either. Is there a way to add tags to my server so it's easy to find or is the name ALREADY a tag?

Just use game-monitor, its easy to search for specific servers.

Tell your friends to try manually connecting to your IP (steam://connect/YOURIP, find out your IP at whatismyip.org)

That's what it should do, its going to bind to the IP of your computer -- port forwarding sends data from the public IP on your router to it. Make sure you are forwarding BOTH TCP and UDP 27015, all other ports should be UDP.
