How does everyone have like 100 mb/s connections? I guess you guys use a collocation company that have this connection. I want to build my own box but i dont know anything about what company to use or w/e. If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be awesome.

You need to find a data center where you can house your server. Check your area.

There are many good data centers in Chicago. however I don't remember the names off hand. As for hosting from a college connection, make sure you have clearance. Hosting from the Dorms is a BAD idea since they normally will watch for heavy traffic. However if you can get the OK, do it Smile

My main TF2 server is hosted by the university it's self Wink

I'm looking for a place where i could send my server, and then that person could host it for me, so i wont get the problems, and play with a normal ping on it..

OBS: For free.

Haha, Good luck Big Grin

It's easy to find if you wanna pay, otherwise never.

The "cheapest" way is to host it at your own home, with your own internet provider, but I quess you don't have fibernet, your brandwidth specs won't be good enought. Unless you've a good freind, who can run a server from you in a datacenter.

Ubiquity Server Solutions (http://www.ubiquityservers.com) is pretty popular. However, colocating is fairly expensive, you are more than likely better off purchasing services from one of the many game hosting companies out there . . . unless you have money to burn and just want to have some fun. Just remember, you generally get what you pay for with co-location. If you find a company offering rock-bottom pricing that is way under the industry average . . . good luck.

Also, note that when someone says they have a 100mbps connection, that's just to the network equipment -- bandwidth is bought dedicated by the megabit, or in total monthly commitments, i.e. 1000GB per month. The downside of buying by monthly commitments is that you are generally not guarunteed any minimum amount of bandwidth at a given point in time.
