can't change maps
#1
hey all, I tried asking this at thesteam forums, with no luck

I run a cs:source and HL2 dm server. Everything runs fine, everything is up to date. However, I can't seem to change maps via the server gui drop down list. I can use changelevel <map name> in the console tab alright, but on the main tab where the current map is displayed, I click the map name and then the edit button. The pop up window comes up, but there is no drop down and I can't input anything into the field??

I do have a maplist.txt and mapcycle.txt file

Any ideas, greatly appreciated....tks

Dunno about this. It might be worth spending the extra time to set up your server using a batch file (see tutorials). It takes a little time but the end result is so much more flexible and gives you better control.

Plus you can just type changelevel <map> in the console to change the level.

You know, at the risk of sounding sarcastic, the reply to his question should not be "use the console", or "use changelevel mapname". Clearly he, as well as I, want to use the easiest method to change maps.

I also have this same problem, and I find it hard to believe that there isn't an easy fix. I too have all maps listed in the mapcycle.txt file, as well as the maplist.txt file.

I am having the same problem, but only with the stand-alone dedicated server. I had no problem when using the steam client to run my server. Never have figured it out. I am getting used to using the console until it is fixed (if it's broken).

I don't use the GUI so my honest answer is I don't know. However, I do know that using the console works. So this is why I have suggested it as a possible solution.

If there is a bug in the GUI there is very little I or anyone outside Valve can do about it, so you just have to make the best out of what you've got until an update comes along that fixes the problem.

Please try to be a little less arrogant in future when ppl on these forums are trying to help.

heh, well I use the console too but a good option for best of both worls is to use hlsw alpha 1.0.0.38
Then your server runs a nice stable console, from which you can use changelevel and you can run HLSW on another PC anywhere which gives you a nice selection of live info, logging and easy options such as map change and kick/ban on right click.
