Orange Box take a lot more out of a box.
As for plug ins, if they are written for source mod, they should port over.
Nah, it's nowhere near double CPU. I'd say 10%-30% extra. Apparently the memory leak has been fixed in TF2 (todays update), so hopefully it will be fixed for all orange box games.

Since the update today, I've had like 2 second roundstart lag while our server was full...not all the time though.

I'm hoping its just Mani admin, will be changing it over to Sourcemod this weekend, so we'll see.

Mani for orangebox has been bad as far as I've read.
BM was amazing when TF2 came out but SM took the pie when they released their orange box version.

I had before the update these Mods:

-MetaMod
--Sourcemod
---DoD Medic
--Jetpack

-Eventscripts
--Es_TOOLS
---Hide and Seek
---DoD GunGame

-Mani-Admin-Plugin

And now none but Mani work. I have updated all of them to the Orange Box engine, but still nothing. Well, Source Mod kid of worked, but whenever somebody would use Medic, the server crashed. And when SourceMod was enabled, the server would crash for no reason every 5 minutes or so. Jetpack never worked since the update. I tried re-installing Eventscripts for Orange Box, but it doesn't work with Game Servers.com too well. Could I have some help?

Check the SM forums. I would be very suprised if they don't have SM stable on the new DoD:S yet.

As for Mani, I wouldn't trust the it with the orange box stuff personally. He doesn't update enough.

I never used mani for TF2 because he was so late in the game. And his stuff was really buggy compaired to BM which worked great (besides the huge respawn durring sudden death bug...)

I have posted in the SourceMod forums already. It is a lot slower that these forums!

Also, which version of Beetles Mod should I get? It would be nice to change. (Although my Mani works fine)

I finally got round to setting up Sourcemod on our TF2 server, working well so far and quite simple to use.

However, still getting spawn lag....so I'll have to play around with the priority, that fixed it on CSS.

I tried to set up a DoD:S server but it's a real performance hog, almost like Team Fortress 2 now.
I love the game, but for the one who hosts servers.. yeah..

I just wished somebody knew everything about it and how to fix it, but I guess we all can't get that lucky...
