Problem! What can i do against high CPU usage?
#1
Hi.

I have a problem with my rootserver.

Spec:

2 x Dual Xeon 2,4 GhZ (9,6 GhZ)
8 GB Ram
Debian 4.0
Kernel: 2.6.22.11
100 Mbit Connection (Unitedcolo)

Now the Problem:

I have a CPU usage of 90% (one cpu) with 20 Players on the Server on TICK33.

Server FPS= 250fps

I Asked that in this Forum a while ago, and someone told me that it could be the reason that the Kernel is compiled incorrectly.

I tested several Kernels, but with no success.

Tested it on a Server with full plugins (eventscripts, es_tools and lot of scripts) and with an clean tick33 server (no plugins). everytime same cpu usage.

Thats a part i cant understand.

maybe this helps to understand, its 1 empty server:

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
14632 user1 15 0 754m 637m 15m S 14 7.8 2019:18 srcds_i686 (14& CPU - remind, its an empty srcds)
3638 user1 15 0 3084 1092 704 S 0 0.0 0:34.32 screen
3639 user1 15 0 3436 1676 1080 S 0 0.0 0:00.01 srcds_run

How is your kernel being compiled? Are you compiling with any flags or make options?

What else is running on this server?

Have you confirmed that your server has negotiated (if autoneg is on) for 100 Mbps?

Is hyper-threading enabled? (known issue disable)

Point 1:

Kernel is a standard Kernel with no options or flags compiled.

Point2:

1 Teamspeak Server and an apache for fastdownload

Point 3:

Yes, our hoster told me theres no limit and its really 100 Mbit.

but the other thing was he showed me an grafic of our banwith and it was extremely high. we thought the apache running on the server which containing all files for fastdownload could be the problem. i dont know what to do in this case. dont think that the preozes itself of 1 server rises so dramatic when the apache loads that many things...

Point 4:

HT seems to be disabled cause it shows only 4 cpus on cpuinfo.
