I am thinking of renting a dediated server to run some servers and need some input.
Dedicated Server Specs:
AMD Athlon XP 2000
512 Ram
40 GB HD
1400 Gb Bandwdith
10MBit connection
I want to Run:
1: 20 Man Source Server
1: 12 Man 1.6 Priv
1: Ventrilo Server
1: Website
Would this do it. I can have the ram upgraded if needed.
I need to know before the deal ends on April 15.

That would work perfectly, a memory upgrade (to 1024MB) is recommended. If you are planning to run multiple websites, make sure you save on the databases, they use a lot of system resources.
May the Source be with you...

Thanks for the response, No databases will be used. Just a basic website.

In that case you should be perfectly fine with that system, only I don't know how much memory a Ventrilo server uses. To be safe, I would have the memory upgraded to 1024MB like I said before.

just a little question, do you intend on having forums? or use some kinda of content managment system such as PHP-Nuke? If so, then you will need the usage of mysql or some other database server. Flat filing won't really cut it, esspecially if you gain alot of users.
starting 9/24/2006 if your problem has been solved please edit your first post and add [solved] to the begining of the title. Thanks.

I'm not sure how much resources ventrillo uses, but what you have for the rest is perfectly fine.
If you plan on running PsychoStats, make sure you can get SSH access to the server, and make sure you have PHP, MYSQL, and PERL.

Yes I did forget about the forums, so yes a database will be used. As far as psychostats is concerned, I will be doing them myself. I know it is alot of work to do but looking for a better way to save bandwidth. There is a big dump in price with a bandwidth upgrade. I am currently paying 65.00 a month for a 12 man Private and 16 man source and looking for cheaper alternatives.
Also has anyone had good luck with Co-locating, and can tell me the main differences with going co-located and just renting a dedicated?

I have our server co-located at a local internet cafe at no cost to us. In return for letting us co-locate our server there, we are plugging their business. i.e. advertising, letting the people that play on our server know that playing at that internet cafe would give them the best pings, etc.
I also know of someone who has their server co-located at a local ISP. Again, he is getting the co-location of his server at no cost. And in return, he is advertising the ISP to the players.
Sometimes, when renting a server, the company providing the service may put multiple servers on one box. So you end up sharing resources with other servers, and another servers mistake/misuse may cause you lag.
Here, there is another co-lo opportunity, however, it costs $150/mo. and http ports are closed. For myself and my friends, this was something that we absolutely would not consider even though we would get more bandwidth, because of the cost, and also because we want to run psychostats from our box, but with port 80 closed, nobody would be able to see the stats.
Usually, the biggest advantage to co-lo is complete control, but if the company that you are renting from will let you do everything you had listed, I don't think it's that bad of a deal. But if you can get it for free, that would be better.

Man this is turning out to be a big deal. If you guys don't mind and I know you have been asked to death of this question. Could you recommend a good server setup for that dedicated server I mentioned. Meaning, if you had that setup what kind of servers would you run and how many, etc. Hard question to ask, I just want to know with its current state how many servers could I run.

looks like your RAM will be your limiting factor. Again, as I stated before, I have no idea how much resources ventrillo uses, but I would assume you could squeeze in another 20 player server.

Besides, not all the servers will be 100% occupied at any time. Ofcourse it's best to think that way, but still, it's something to keep in mind.
