Will this do the trick?

I want to run as many 16 slots 100 tick CSS servers as possible
Also running sourcemode with about 10-15 plugins
Currently we fill up all our 5 servers during evening and nighttime, so it need to cope with all servers full.

Suggested hardware:
1U Mini rackserver
CPU Intel Core 2 Quad - Q6700 (2.67GHz, 2*4MB/1066FSB)
DISC 2*36GB Raptor (10Krpm, 4.6ms)
RAM 2GB ECC
Connected to ISP backbone, unlimited bandwidth
Windows 2K3

I hope this will allow me to run at least 4 (one on each core)
Is it recommendable to run more than 1 CSS server on a core?

So, I'm not really after how many slots, but how many full 16 slots 100 tick servers this would run. Any ideas?

Will it be more or less the same with Q6600?! We have founding for Q6700 but if it doesnt give any real extra, no using paying for it :p

you can run atleast 2 16 man 100 ticks on each core

Each core should get 45-50 slots. Then you run into a problem. Take the max for example, 50 slots per core, so 200 slots in total. So you could get 12 servers. You have a 36 GB hard drive - OS -Other programs.....you dont have enough hard drive room.

Personally, I would get the Q6600, the Q6700 isn't worth the extra money in my opinion.

You could wait until 10th march when the new quad cores are released.

Its 2x36GB ... a dedicated server ... only OS, srcds and of course the maps ...
Separate machine for webserver, hlstats etc ...

What will grow most is the logs ... but those we archive on the webservermachine ...

I'm sure the new quad will cost even more than the Q6700 ... but since we have founding for the Q6700 we will probably stick with it ... it cant really hurt ... can it?!

That doesnt look like 2 36GB raptors to me. It looks like your talking about something called DISC 2 and then a 36GB Raptor. Thats just what I think. No offense but its kinda hard to read what you write..lol
