More FPS?
#1
I have a server that I run on a Core Duo 1.6Ghz processor with 1gb of ram and it gets around 500FPS on average.

Now I figured I try what will happen if I run the server on my desktop, which is a whole different animal. The specs are Core 2 Quad q6600 @ 3.0Ghz and 2GB of ram. The desktop is farrrrrrr more powerful, so I was expecting getting closer to 1000fps. Nope! In the beginning I got 500FPS but after changing the fps_max to 1000 and removing my heapsize line, it went up to an average of around 750FPS with peaks of little over 800. I know the gaming companies can do better and I know also that their computers are not better than what I have (they run multiple servers on one machine, so even if they have more ram, it should not make a difference).

So how do they do it? When comparing processors, the FSB is the same and even after mine is overclocked, it beats out all but one stock dual-xeon setup that is listed on Sandra.

Any input?
Thanks

a fps of 1000 doesn't matter
but set fps_max to 2000
It should then reach over 1000 if posible.

you don't need 1000fps, it's pointless. I run a 100fps with no problems.
Most people like around 200 or 300 fps I think.
But all a server needs is LOTS of CPU.
