Hello,
I've decided to reformat my linux box with a new OS and I'm making my TF2 server the priority.
What is the best OS I can use to run a dedicated TF2 server? Any tips for the command line too?
Thanks.

Gentoo or Slackware. Nothing campares in speed and reliability.

I'm fine with a non-gui system. Would slackware be a better option then?

centos is a good choice too, based on the red hat core with a lot of community support.

Forgott3n, after your initial install, they are practically the same in whats running. Either one is good, they will allow you to have a very minimal install.
As for CentOS, the company I work for uses that on a few of our business servers, but the problem with it is that in a game server, you want just the bare necessities to get the max performance out of the server; CentOS, even in a 'minimal' install, will install things like Bluetooth, cron daemon, etc, which in my opinion you should not have to use unless YOU specify you want it. I suggest Slack or Gentoo.

Ok, I've obtained my motherboard's manual. Here are the details:
It supports AMD PGA Socket A Duron/Athlon/XP processors at 200/266 MHz System Bus Frequencies. Support 1 GHz to 2000+ MHz and higher processor.
So can someone name the cheapest AMD processor I can get a hold of?

Check newegg.com, tigerdirect.com, or even ebay. I run a GSP and we use Ubuntu Server on all of our servers. It runs great, so maybe try that out. also ebay should have what your looking for at a low price. good luck

Ubuntu Server is a good choice, but if you can use non-GUI then do it, it increases your performance AFAIK.
