i am trying to run a tf2 server. got every thing in and it runs fine, even tweaked it to 100tic & 500fps. a friend can join from another location by ip or friends list. the problem i am haveing is that it seems to be timeing out people trying to join from server list. i can see my server on the steam list and game tracker. i can see them connecting but they disconnect before they get in. dosent matter if normal maps or custom.
this is pc:
p4 2.2
1gig ddr
10/100 nic
40gig drive
win xp home (had some luck on other server running 2k pro but no custom maps and pings spike to 900 now and again. assumed that it was problem with older dell server)
this is internet
comcast comercial (workplace standard) 6meg down and 700something up. speedtests @ 13177kbps down 2568kbps up.
smc 8014 with static ip (firewall for static is off / windows firewall is off)
ben at this for a while, gettin fustrated any help would be GREAT! ive read all the posts i can find, tweaked .cfg file / tryed without.....

with static ip it should be a "passthrough"( comcast static ip is asignable public ip) smart packet detection and firewall are off. so no ports. the gateway dose allow for static port maping think i should push 27005-27015 to ip? ill try it but dont c why it would make a dif. server is -> murderapolis mn <- if any one wants to try it.

checked gateway and "Disable all rules and allow all inbound traffic through" is checked. if unchecked then firewall for static is on and would then need to pass port trafic to ip. "disable firewall for true static ip's" is also checked.... so things should be WIDE open.

oh sry didnt know. didnt mean to upset any one.
just checked with comcast about trafic shapeing and max caps to be sure its not them. they say their not blocking trafic and bandwith is not caped as long as i dont drag node trafic down. they couldnt give me a exact #s that = abuse but assured me its not a problem. so i guess i can rule out isp as problem. i did however see that some one has a clasaction lawsute open on comcast for p2p trafic shapeing so i dont know if i beleve them 100%
id be happy to post .cfg or anything els that might help, will even let senior members/admins vnc in if u want. dont know what other info may be helpfull in diagnoseing this problem. decided to post here cuz you guyes have ben the most helpfull sorce of info i can find. again sry if i pissed anyone off, didnt know.

yes my game dose show up on steam & game monitor... my friends can go to friends list or ip and play, when random ppl join i see them connect but takes them ForEver to get into game then they time out, or they just quit trying. sry for smart ass coment before... didnt know that was dig sig... had some packetloss in the last 2 hrs but is good now, i will put server back online... comcast may be messin with bandwith again. try to connect if u want. i cant think of anything that would block random joiners but let ppl i know in, other than server takes too long to connect.
again sry mooga didnt mean to be an ass thought u were messin with me.

i wouldn't put anything beyond comcast, i would say that they have automatic filtering set up where if you get xxx amount of traffic on a certain port they start messing with it. you are not the first person that has had issues with a server on the comcast network. plus their network is not designed for everyone on a node to use up all their allocated bandwidth at one time ie peak times it's slower than crap.

hmmm... any sugestions ... with a comercial acount (should be dedicated bandwith 6mb down & 768k up) i can see a resedential acount being slower (not given priority on node). but @ 768 up or whatever they will garentee me shouldnt that be enough for at least a 16 man game? {csSource had no problems @ 16 players} ????. TF2 worked well on old dell 2450 (2x733cpu 1gig ram) {would spike @ 900ms now and again but ran 16 players for hours.} also 1 or 2 friends can connect to new box and game allnight no glitches, just random ppl cant connect. time for new isp? dont have lots o coin for t3 or anything this is where i am lost!!! --->side note i am a contractor for comcsat comercial business serverices...so i know gateway levels r good .. ip is good.. route is good... dosent mean i know comcast is good for hosting this game, thats why im here!

ok i am sitting server side but ran tracert (sevral times) from giganews to me and dosent show any unresponsive hops... will have some one run ping plotter on my ip tomoro. but before i blame it all on isp is their anything els that anyone can think of that would do this. or would mirrioring downloads to another ip off same gateway be any help to joiners, or is xp home suitable for this type of server, or shuld i turn on iis or other os with iis(got 98/2kpro/servero3/xp-pro{sorta}and trial server08-pc prob wont run vista well but got it to) , or would linux help (got ubunto/fedora/redhat) from what i have read @ steam linux isnt really supported.
