LAN Help

How can i play LAN with my friend?

If im sitting home, and he is sitting at his home, how can we play LAN?

Do i need http://www.whatismyip.com or my static ip?

And how can i make a server, and how can my friend connect?

Please can anyone explain me in detail..

LAN refers to Local Area Network. The word 'Local' might mess you up a bit. When it says 'Local' it means anyone using the same internet connection as you. For him to connect, just make the server have a password and give him your external

So i go in game, i click on create server, disable bots, starting money etc etc, and if i give him my external ip, how can he connecy? and is my external ip my static ip, or the ip at http://www.whatismyip.com??

First of all, you should use the updated version of srcds.

But, have you forwarded your ports? And if you have, just create the server, and give him your ip and it should work

i have port forwarded my ports, but what ip should i give him? my static ip or my http://www.whatismyip.com ip?

I think whatismyip.com. What do you mean with 'static ip'? Your network ip (192.168.x.x)?
(btw, maybe you'll need to set sv_lan to 0 if you start the server ingame)

Try using Hamachi then making a new server.

I don't like Hamachi, it can be very insecure and it isn't very fast. He forwarded the ports, why should he use Hamachi?

Yeah just make sure your ports are forwarded, then hit ~, type in the console sv_lan 0, and it should come up on the internet list. My friend did it once.

Ill try it with hamachi. Ill make a server in game and in hamachi., Then ill give my hamachi ip to my friend, he will be able to join right?

I made a dedicated server with srcds, but it didnt showed up under internet, maybe because i didnt typed sv_lan 0 ?? someone sad than I cannot see my own made dedicated server under internat, only other people can see it??

I don't know what YOU are talking about, but Hamachi's security is THE reason to use it. You can read about their security here. Now joining a random Hamachi network might be unsafe, but just the two of you and some friends? No problems.

Jepp, I full agree. Hamachi is so secure, you _CAN_ get what you want from the other harddiscs if they didn't configure well. That's really nice, I have to say *cough*. But, it's better we forget that.

Well if you are connecting to a friends network.....Personally i dont screw over my friends
But what does it matter. Either way can work.

Exactly. but thats if THEY MIS CONFIGURE their system.
Hamachi it's self is secure. The users might not be.
