Start up error
#1
Hello all,

I jsut install the dedicated Linux srcdc and when I try to start the server I get the following error:

Quote:AppFramework : Unable to load module bin/engiine_i686.so!
Unable to load interface VEngineCvar003 from bin/engine_i686.so
Server Quit

I have updated everything I can thing of, and HLDS tool says that its all up to date. Also, I am using Red Hat Enterprise Version 4.

Delete your bin folder (where engine_i486 and engine_i686 should be located), then re-run hldsupdatetool to download the files again.

I tried that already. It downloaded the files, but it didn't fix anything.

Would this be on an Intel or AMD processor?

You could try forcing a different binary:

Code:
./srcds_i386 -game cstrike blah blah

or

Code:
./srcds_amd -game cstrike blah blah

If its an old processor and srcds_run forces the i686 binary, your CPU might not have the proper instruction set needed to run that binary.

i bought my server last year, i'm pretty sure it has everything

it's an Intel CPU, I think it's dual quad core (according to dmesg, i have 8 cpu(core))

Well I can't believe that every post I have read about this issue, I am yet to read a suitable solution, damn its hard not being cynical about linux BS.

Auto detecting CPU
Using SSE2 Optimised binary.
Server will auto-restart if there is a crash.
Updating server using Steam.
Checking bootstrapper version ...
Updating Installation
Checking/Installing 'Counter-Strike Source Shared Content' version 70

Checking/Installing 'Base Source Shared Models' version 4

Checking/Installing 'Base Source Shared Sounds' version 4

Checking/Installing 'Base Source Shared Materials' version 8

Checking/Installing 'Source Dedicated Server Linux' version 94

HLDS installation up to date
AppFramework : Unable to load module bin/engine_i686.so!
Unable to load interface VEngineCvar003 from bin/engine_i686.soFri
Feb 13 03:06:29 EST 2009: Server restart in 10 seconds

IS THERE ANYONE WHO KNOW'S WTF IS THE ISSUE. <-- caps to emphasis the stress, lol.

But seriously does anyone know what it is, I have tried all the suggestions in the threads I have read on this topic, and utterly NADA.

I have also completely re-installed to no avail.

Now I just get the feelin I have just killed this thread with this hopeless post, lol.

hello

I had the exact message as you, but when I used ./srcds_amd it worked fine. I am using Debian 5 x86_64. I did have ia32-libs installed too, just so you know.
