SRCDS crashes/glitches caused by maps being too "busy" or complex?
#1
I've noticed that on my server, SRCDS will immediately spike to 100% CPU (up from an average of about 1% CPU!) when too much seems to be happening at the same time within the game. Too many smoke particles, too many sparks, too much gunfire, basically too many things in movement at any given moment...What happens is, all my players basically freeze/twitch for a few seconds.. After about 5-10 seconds, SRCDS finishes having a heart attack, and things go back to normal for a few minutes, then randomly, boom, it happens again..

Does anyone know a fix for this, other than removing "expensive" entities from a map that cause alot of server-side thinking?

1 dedicated server, AMD Athlon XP 64 dual core, 2.0 GHz, 1GB RAM, Fedora Core 6, updated nightly. Been doing Unix in one form or another for the past 15 years.

Running Mani-Admin, and Mattie Eventscripts.. The mattie scripts are custom-written, and well-debugged. It's safe to exclude them from the list of suspects.
