Having server spit out number of players in text file?
#1
I'm trying to make a website that when I go to it it just displays the number of people on my server.

I'm hoping I can just have my linux dedicated server just spit out a text file every few minutes via cron or something.

Is this possible?

Or is it possible to use scripting, like CURL or javascript's url.fetch or something instead?

I've basically grabbed what I want from the script and have written my own that simply spits out the number of players.
I'll post later with the PHP code if anyone is interested.

(makes it simpler to just have one file for one purpose)

I've also made a konfabulator widget, but I can't release it until I fine-tune it and find some donated bandwidth to host the PHP script for everyone.

Not that I think the demand will be that great, but it's still pretty cool to me. Toungue

Well, I've finished the initial widget, but I'm already looking to improve it. The gameq 4fingers suggested didn't seem to work as well as I had hoped. I can get the number of players, but not their individual names for some reason.

Does anyone know where I could go to find out how to send queries to the server via socket commands? (similar to the way gameq works, but I just want to know what's going on so I can have it do exactly what I want it to.)
