RCON - unable to connect?
#1
I am running a netgear wireless router (all computers in question are hardwired to it, though). I have two computers, one running ubuntu for the SRCDS servers, the other Vista Ultimate x64. I can connect to my servers just fine, so can anyone else. The problem I am running in to is that when I try to connect via rcon, so I can load bots or other general admin functions, I get an "unable to connect" error message.

The IP addy of the server is 192.168.1.105, and I have all the port-forwarding done to this machine.
The IP addy of the gaming machine is 192.168.1.2. M
My external IP is 68.188.11.240.

I have tried using the external IP, and by default, the 105 ip. Both net me the same "unable to connect, not responding" error message for rcon.

Any idea what I can do? I'd greatly appreciate any help that can be given. Big Grin

did you do: "rcon_address xx.xxx.xx.xxx"?
then "rcon_password xxxxxx"?

I sure did, and for rcon_address XXXXXXXXXXXX, I used both my WAN and LAN IP, to see if either would work, and neither did. Then I followed it with my password, and I got the error message when I tried to send a command. (Like bot_add_ct into CS:S)

so, is that "rcon_address lan_ip_of_server" or "rcon_address wan_ip" or "rcon_address lan_ip_of_gaming_machine" ???

Sorry, I'm a bit of a noob >_>

You could also put that in the startup command string. I am sure you just need to set rcon_port xxxxx and don't need to specify the IP unless it is going to be different from the server IP.

make sure you have the proper ports forwarded. (not sure what they are exactly but 27000 through 27020 usually works for me.

You def have to state your external wan ip at luach. ignore your lan ip.
