Connection Reset

Well I have scoured the forums looking for a solution to this one. I have tried to avoid posting in hope I wasn't repeating what someone else has already asked. So I apologise if this is the case. <----- Yes I have read elsewhere that others are experiencing a similar problem but no-one has offered as solution, or suggested why.

Below is the message I receive everytime.

root@game1 /h/tf2> ./steam -command update -game "hl2mp" -dir .
Checking bootstrapper version ...
Updating Installation
No installation record found at .
Connection Reset

Above says there is no record, ITS CUS IT AIN'T INSTALLED YET, lol.

I give it a fixed folder to install it too and I receive the same message.

I have also done the tutorials from the very start with no luck either. Same message.

I managed to install TF2 first, then I found out I need to have installed "HLMP" to make it work. So I tried installing that, that didn't work same message. So deleted everything and started again.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

No I am not from Israel, and this issue continues to stump me. The server is located in Sydney, Australia.

Basically if the install had nothing to do with whack steam I wouldn't be having this lame issue.

If I knew of a way to install this manually without the need for steam I would be a happy camper. I hope somebody has a alternative method.

I thought of that, and I actually disabled iptables all together and still got the above message. I will have a crack at this again.

Yeah it did, with no issues. It installed, then asked me to run the command again.

Code:
./steam -command update -game "hl2mp" -dir .

I run the above command again it then it gives me this...

Code:
Checking bootstrapper version ...
Updating Installation
No installation record found at .
Connection Reset

Totally bizarre.

Piece of serious crap. I have never had to deal with just a pathetic system. Source/Steam truly is the most disgrace piece of software I have ever had to deal with.

I used my steam accounts username and password which I have not read anywhere here.

example;
Code:
./steam -command update -game "hl2mp" -dir . -username XXXXX -password XXXXXX

For those of you who are having the same issue try the command the above. Other I suggest not bothering with the pile of crap Steam is.

Update:

It appears that the below command only worked as root, even though I have read my tutorials stating that I should never do the install via Root.

Code:
./steam -command update -game "tf" -dir ./ -username XXXXX -password XXXXX

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME TRYING TO RUN THIS COMMAND IF YOU ARE NOT ROOT.

In saying that, as stated above I was able to install "hl2mp" as the system user, so GO FIGURE.

Avoid Steam like the plague, it only brings misery.
