What to use...Mani admin mod or Sourcemod?
#1
I run an 18-man CSS server on a fairly old machine (p4 2.26 GHz, 1gb ram) and it runs fairly well. I am currently using manimod (installed through metamod), but as I add more eventscripts/plugins and such, I am noticing it start to slow down a bit. I saw that sourcemod has recently come out of beta and released a 1.0RC, and they cite that sourcemod is very fast. What I'm wondering is if anyone here has had any experience with both, and can say if there is any significant reason to use one over the other?

Something else of concern, I use mani's ranking system. I don't know if there's any easy way or even any way at all to port the ranks over if I were to convert to sourcemod, and I don't want to piss off the server's regulars too much.

Also, I like to play around a lot with eventscripts/est; does sourcemod offer anything that either of these two things do not? and would thus eliminate the need for them?

Running on windows server 2003 if that makes any difference.

I'm in a similar situation as you.

I like Mani, but it's such a drain on resources. I already run SM for Deathmatch, so it'll make sense to have the Admining through it too.

Yeah...each new plugin I add to source:mm, it takes a little bit longer for ininital server startup, and I'm even starting to notice it's taking a little longer to switch maps now. Going easier on the plugin count isn't really an option either.

How is sourcemod working out btw? I've never actually used it, so is it similar to mani in the way you can use the in-game menus to admin, invoke commands, edit clients, etc?

I haven't actually used it as an admin tool, I'm just forced to use it because of CSS: DM.

I'll set it up on my testing server and send you some screenshots if you like Smile

Well from those screens it looks exactly like mani. I was looking around the site and it says you can do all sorts of scripting and stuff with it, is this at all similar like what you can do with evenscripts?

It's similar to EventScripts, but if you had the chance to go with SM scripting or ES, I'd go with ES - in my opinion his Python addons are brilliant and the community is very active and friendly.

Mani is a real resource hog, and the thing I like about SM is that you can *completely* disable (i.e. remove) parts that you don't want. They won't get loaded into memory or lag you out at all.

How about stats/ranking? Like I said before I'm using the mani ranks and it would be very nice if I were able to port them over. And right now using something like hlstatsx isn't an option.

We're in the same boat again, here.

I've looked into StatsMe Minimum, but I don't really like it.

I'll try to write a script in EventScripts that can read from Mani's Database, but I won't be able to record accuracy and all that cool stuff.

Have a look around the SM website.

Looking around at sourcemod, it almost looks more...refined than mani. Mani has always kind of seemed like a crude hack to me, and sourcemod looks like it surpasses it totally and completely in congruence and just about everything else. I might do a test run and just disable mani and run sourcemod to see if performance improves at all.

It's nice to be able to keep my eventscripts and other metamod plugins, but I might just have to bite the bullet and change over to hlstatsx.
