2 x Dualcore prob.
#1
Hi

I Have the following problem:

First of all, the Specs:

Debian ETCH
2 x 2,4 GhZ Dualcore
8 GB RAM
2 x 160 GB HDD
Linux R 2.6.19.2 #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Jan 22 13:13:37 CET 2007 i686 GNU/Linux @1000Hz
gcc (GCC) 4.1.2 20061115 (prerelease) (Debian 4.1.1-21)
ldd (GNU libc) 2.3.6

Installed:

Apache (for fastdownload)
Teamspeak @HDD2
14 CS:S Servers (7 Currently running)

Now to the Problem:

The CPU usage with 10 alive Players on our Server1 (35 Slot) goes about 50%. The server is running with tick33.
Installed Plugins are: es_tools and Eventscripts 2.0
even if those plugins are disabled, the CPU usage is extrem high.

i dont know what the problem could be. but with 24 player the cpu usage is too high and the server starts to lag.

we thought it could be the os, so our hoster installed the os completely new. but the problem is still present.

also ive seen 4 peoples at our warserver (nothing installed, clean tick100)
and the cpu usage is like 35 - 45%.

any suggestions?

i get this every now and then when i recompile the kernel for centos, if i get this i double check the param.h file and the jiffies.h then recompile again. second or third time through it is back to normal cpu usage. if it is compiled incorrectly i will see ~4-10% cpu usage on an empty server, if correct it's 0% (as it should be).

so u think its cause the kernel is recompiled incorrectly?

hard to say but for me it all depended on what my cpu usage was on an empty server. like i said if it was anything higher than 4% constant as soon as people joined it would skyrocket. what happens if you boot into the older kernel?

ive done a kernel update to 2.6.18-5-686 . at standard Hz. the empty server has 1-3% and with 2 living players 7-8%. i will check out the usage tomorrow when there are more ppl on the server.

just gave it a quick test @23bots and the usage was 60%. dont know if thats a good value...

Still seems high for a 2.4ghz Dual Core, but better than what you were getting before..

10 living players @tick 66 with 35% cpu usage....

hm....

i restartet the root. then the usage for 4 players was 4% @tick33. then, after a server restart and setting it to tick66 the usage was 20% @ 8 living players. 3 maps after that it was 40% on 9 living players.

on round end the usage is 9-12% on round start 40%.

for each player 4,5% cpu usage is a bit high Sad

dont know what i else can do...

try running the server with out the plugins. See if your usage is significantly lower.
