This happen to me on my first server. I have no clue why it happens. Try downloading to a different folder. Worst comes to worst, try downloading it to a different computer and use a flash drive. I would definitely try a different folder first though. You might also want to try asking STEAM.

I have the same problem, everything working great, run the HLDS update and POOF! No SRCDS.EXE anymore!

I've tried installing it literally 30 times and nothing! WTF!

Does anyone else have an idea on how to get around this? All 5 of my servers are down right now! Incidentally, I've tried installing it on a different computer and in different directories and get the "connection reset by host" errors that others are getting too.

Why God! Why do I continue running SOURCE servers!

HELP!

Been there and done that with a different directory. Even tried a different drive. It worked perfect everytime until this last update. Something must have changed on the content server or perhaps the content server is missing files? Is it possible to attach to to a different content server to test this?

How about this? Has the srcds.exe executable changed lately, or can I use one dated Feb 2007? I have a copy saved in an old directory...

I still need to resolve the issue though. Thanks guys!

I dont think the srcds.exe changes, the files that it runs is what changes, i think. I may be wrong. Try using the old one it cant hurt.

100% sounds like an install mishap. Did you try installing it completely again or just verify_all?

i've tried completely reinstalling hldsupdatetool in a new directory, tried dling the srcds server files numorious times. i've tried verify_all. in fact the last few attempts were using verify all where it would only download the contents of the cstrike folder.
this also happened when i tried installing using hl2mp and even dods.

Same here, tried installing over and over, different directories, different computers, different drives. Always the same results, no srcds.exe comes down. I had set up icons to run hldsupdate tool from. All I've ever needed to do was click the icon and all went well until a week ago. I've run it from a command line as well with the same results. All the content looks to be there, but no srcds.exe. Obiviously I couldn't confirm the all the content because I without srcds.exe I was unable to run the server and test it.

Hummmmm... I'm not giving up yet. I WILL SOLVE THIS!

Well, after trying everything I knew of, I've restored the old directory from the original copy I had saved and it works again.

I was never able to get the entire new download to work. I even tried running the update on the restored directory after confirming the directory was functional. The update left the srcds.exe file this time, but the server wouldn't start. It repeatedly reported an error to the effect of unable to load dll after numerous update attempts.

Either the SRCDS version available as of 11/11/07 doesn't work on all win32 machines with Windows 2003 Server (in my case a DELL server)or the content download server is missing some files that aren't downloaded when I connect to it for an update.

I'm going to stick with the old one for now as everything seems to work ok.

Thanks for trying guys.
