tf2 server update

Hi im having a real pain with my team fortress 2 servers.

I run 8 game servers (for testing at the moment) on a dedicated linux box and all was working fine untill the middle of last week when a steam update was realeased. now no one can connect to any of the game servers and in the console for each of them i see "your server is out of date please update and restart"

My question is how the hell do i update these things i have tried adding -autoupdate to the command line when the game server starts but this just seems to be ignored.

autoupdate doesn't work

you need to run ./steam -command update -game tf -dir "yourdir"

same thing except you run it with hldsupdatetool.exe instead of steam
