Hellow! Big Grin

I have a small problem... No actually it's a big one!

Everytime i try to fire my server up, it just crashes into a ball of fire and dies!

./srcds_run -console -game cstrike +map de_dust +maxplayers 16 -autoupdate

Auto detecting CPU
Using default binary.
Auto-restarting the server on crash
Updating server using Steam.
Checking bootstrapper version ...
Updating Installation
Logging in as '*BIIIB*'
Login has expired, use password
Fri Dec 17 07:33:38 CET 2004: Steam Update failed, ignoring.
Fri Dec 17 07:33:39 CET 2004: Server restart in 10 seconds

And then it just goes into a spiral loop towards the ground!

Surely i updated the whole lot with this line

./steam -command update -game "Counter-Strike Source" -dir . -username *biiip* -password *biiip* -remember_password

BUT! When i would try to start the server, well.. You know...

Any ideas?

Add -steamuser *biip* -steampass *biip* to the server startup command

Check your switch router and any firewalls, any one of these may be bloking the port being opened.

my switch doesn't have any firewalls becz it has no software behind it and I opened port 27005 - 27030 on the router. I think that should be enough. right?

I don't think this means any thing but my router doesn't see my Linux box as an attached device becz it is connected throught my windows box wirelessly. I don't think it make a diffence becz my Linux box can get on the internet and all.

Is the there somthing i might do to my Linux box? I'm using Suse 9.1

I have been playing around with hl2mp dedicated server. If I dont specify the +ip command on the command line (when I launch the server), it starts my server with ip 0.0.9.96 (keep in mind this is LAN address assignment not WAN).

So what I did was go into my router (192.168.0.1) and forwarded the required port #'s to the address (0.0.9.96) that the srcds server assigned, and it works ok.

If I try to specify the actual (LAN) address of my linux box (192.168.0.101) to my server via the +ip command when I launch, I have trouble. (i.e. I can't even see the server listed as running on my lan).

I did notice that it took 10 minutes or so before I could see my server on the Internet list. (and this was only after I had connected to it thru the LAN list).

HOpe this helps someone

disinteger

Moral of my story is, the ports can be forwarded/opened, but are they forwarded/opened to point to the right place?
