Theres no SRCDS.EXE file to be found...
My HLServer folder is app 1,27 Gb...am I missing something here?
Never mind...saw the solution in an other thread...need to keep running the updater tool and the scrds file will appear in the orangebox folder
I don't have the Orangebox folder or SRCDS.EXE!

Download the HldsUpdateTool, if you already have, locate it, then open up cmd.exe in your SYSTEM32 or (x86) folder and type this: c:\(The file where it's located)\hldsupdatetool -command update -game tf -dir c:\(Where you want all the files.) Wait about an hour - 1 1/2 hours then you should have all the files and the orangebox folder, and srcds.exe should be in the Orangebox folder, hope I helped.

Simple, just copy down the IP Address that it says in the srcds.exe thing that pops up and says all the crap, then go to TF2 and open the console and type "connect (IP Address that it says)" and there you go.

thanks

Simple, when you open notepad, paste it, then press save as, click at the bottom in the drop-down bar: All files then save the notepad as "server.cfg" it will automatically make it a config file.

i think i may have had the same problem but I'm not sure.
my server cfg for autokicks and such looks like this:
mp_disable_autokick 1
mp_idledealmethod 0
mp_idlemaxtime 1440
For mp_idlemaxtime 1440, you can change the value to how long they can be afk before kicking them, the value is in seconds so 1440 seconds would be 24 minutes.

Also, it says it as a LAN server.

You can set rcon_password in the server config file to anything.
example: rcon_password 123
When you are ingame and in your server; in console, type: rcon_password 123 and you should be able to become the operator.
If you set sv_lan 0, then It should work fine. You also need ports 27015 open and port 27005 open. Players should connect through your external/public ip address.
One way to connect would be going to developer console and typing, connect (ip)
Another way would be adding the ip to your favorites.

I noticed before it says "Connection to steam servers successful."
Then it says the public IP
And then it says "Assigned anonymous gameserver Steam ID [The id]
VAC secure mode is activated.
Connection to game coordinator established.
Then it says what i put before.

Yet again... Please help

OK, have revisited after 6 years!! WOW thats a lot a reads!

In any case, Im going to install the TF2 server for the first time since I made this tut and see what problems I get.

A few things I will update in the tut:
1) How to update the installation
2) Where to download the cfg and bat files (as they seem to be a real problem for people to create)

Ill get back to you...

Hi! This is a wonderful little tutorial, but its not working and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. It downloaded all the files, I even attempted updating a few times just to make sure. I used the exact code that you gave. The server starting .bat file says I've connected to steam servers and has given me a public IP. But when I try to connect to that IP, it doesn't connect to anything. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I noticed in the console after I try to connect using the IP, it says the following:

] connect 99.230.2.213
WARNING: Port 27015 was unavailable - bound to port 27016 instead
WARNING: Port 27005 was unavailable - bound to port 27006 instead
WARNING: Port 27020 was unavailable - bound to port 27021 instead

Do I have to change something with the ports in the command line?

To be honest , I do not know. Its something to do with your network setup. Have you forwarded the ports?

Dang, I KNEW I missed a step. No, I haven't forwarded the ports, and I'm also unsure how to do this. Could you give me a quick runthrough on how to do this or link me to a thread which has what I need?
