multiple server using symlinks
#1
hi all, i need to know something, how to set up multiple servers accounts on a dedicated box, but using symlinks of the standart srcds files

i mean to have a skel somewhere on the hdd and even i create a virtual user on the vsftpd it links all regular files and dirs to the "new account" and also let the "new" user upload his own custom maps, config files etc

ive seen this on some game hosters who uses this way

PD: what is better?, linking the files or having their direct? more cpu/ram usage as having them orginally or linked ?

I planned on doing this a while back, but just never got round to it. The theory to it is great though. You would symlink all the essential files to run srcds - bin folder etc. But you would give users folders they can edit like cfg, addons - possibly maps (if you dont want a central list).

As for resources, i assume it would take up practically the same amount as if it were run from all seperate srcds installs.

the best way is setting up a skel with symlinks ? and only those files who you need really ?
excluding the .cfg and more?
