Im trying to run a standalone server on my home computer, so me and a few friends when they come over can just kill a few zombies and I dont have to set it up every time.

My computer is equipped well enough to handle it, I'm sure. But after setting everything up (and attempting 3 different installations) and following many walkthroughs that all tell me the same thing, I cant see it, and neither can my friend.

It's set up to be a lan server right now, and I might allow access over the internet later, but we cant even see it in the LAN tab. I tried forwarding it through my router, but that shouldn't matter, and didn't help.

I've tried it mostly with the console, the GUI wont even come up though.

Any suggestions?

I'm sure you have sv_lan 1 set?

Also are you running any software fierwalls (ie windows firewall) on the machine you are the hosting the server from?

Yea, Sv_lan is set to 1, and running just windows firewall, but IVe allowed it through.

You may want to try just disabling your firewall to see if it'll start working.

Have you tried binding it to a different port? Really grasping at straws at the moment.

-port 27030

^^As an example

Also do you have an entry somewhere specifying what map to load?

After specifying a map and a different port, the server did more than it has before... came across a few errors with stuff loading, and it actually said it was connected to Steam. But I still cant see it in my Lan tab.

if you add your ip/port to your favorites--does it show up?

have you tried manually connecting to it?
I have a server which I cannot see on my LAN, but when I force connect to it, it works. It is TF2, but the error might be a steam-wide recent bug...

Yea, Ive tried manually connecting, it just stays at connecting to server, if I check my console after closing, it says it retried a few times.

Tried adding to favorites... no go there either : /
