How big a server can i host?

Smile
I'm planning on hosting a CSS server BUT i'm going to be playing on the box too... (Yes i can't afford a server, so get over it Toungue )

Anywho my pc:

Intel P4 ht 2,4 gHz
512 megs of ram (upgrading to 1024 soon)
and a 6mbit/6mbit Internet connection

How many players would my server support? (while i play on the server from the same pc that is hosting it)

safe 6-10
depend also on what map your going to run
maps with lotta water / dust use mucho resource
also smokebombs slow things down
bots take it down some more

start with 8 and take it up till you notice lag

I second that, always best to start with a low(ish) number and count up in two's

Not really a good idea, playing from the same machine you host on will make things laggy, have your server on a dedicated machine instead, thats the way to do it Big Grin

I'm currenlty hosting 2 x 20 Slot Public Source Servers and a 12 Slot Private on a P4 3.0 HT / 512Mb machine and it runs beautifully with everything full. Although I'm not playing on it as well so I'm not sure how much of the resources that would consume (Most likely quite a bit because the game is much more intensive than the SourceDS.)

It's not all about bandwidth, it's usually about the computer. The more memory the better. CPU is good enough as is, you just will need at least 1GB. I only have 768mb Sad

Actually - On the server side of things it is most definately more intensive on the bandwidth. The actual game though is more intensive on the CPU and Memory.

Soo, i have read your post 4~5 times now ???
I still meant what i said,, to clarify things Toungue I don't mean you need to rent/buy a dedicated server Smile like for me,, i took a "old" computer i had over and put it online with only CSS on it = dedicated server Toungue but in the end it's all up to you Big Grin
