Server not Updating
#1
First of all I have a Counter-Strike: Source Linux server that I rent. I know that an update just came out, and when I contacted the people who own the server, they told me that they updated my server and for me to restart it. So I restarted my server and when I typed in "rcon version" it was the old version. I contacted them again, but they said that it said it was already up to date. I also restarted it a few times. Does anyone know what the problem could be. I only have ftp access and I am assuming there is no way to update with only ftp.

Thanks

Not through ftp, no.
what i would do is have them kill the process with -HUP
i.e.: kill -HUP <srcds pid>

Could you post the output when you type "version" ?

For example:
Protocol version 7
Exe version 1.0.0.14 (cstrike)
Exe build: 18:11:29 Feb 11 2005 (2295)

renting servers that only give you ftp access kinda sucks. I didn't get the last update that came out with the autoupdate on server restart. I actually had to run the ./steam -command update ...... line for it to really update. Also, I have seen that sometimes if you haven't updated the server in a while, it doesn't remember your password.

Try calling and explaining it to them again. Personally, I was in the same predicament, I'd look for a new host and share my opinions of them on websites that they advertise on.

After tell the server guys to run what you told me this is what he said:
I blocked anything that I might not want people to know

"There server is updated here is what it says,

steam -command update "Counter-Strike Source" -dir /home/******/hlds2 -username ### -password ###
Checking bootstrapper version ...
Updating Installation
Logging in as 'admin@********.com'
Checking/Installing 'Linux Server Engine' version 16

Checking/Installing 'Half-Life Base Content' version 7

HLDS installation up to dat"

After that I restared the server with their web plugin. Then I went into the server typed

rcon_password ****
rcon version

it still says

Protocol version 7
Exe version 1.0.0.14 (cstrike)
Exe build: 19:18:02 Jan 14 2005 (2260)

wow, sounds like their full of BS. when you do the version, it should come out with what ajcook had posted earlier (for linux). Windows version has a more recent date.

how come theres no -game in front of the "Counter-Strike Source"?

this is what I get after I run the update and my server is up to date:

Code:
Checking/Installing 'Counter-Strike Source Shared Content' version 24

Checking/Installing 'Base Source Shared Models' version 3

Checking/Installing 'Base Source Shared Sounds' version 3

Checking/Installing 'Base Source Shared Materials' version 4

Checking/Installing 'Linux Source HLDS' version 27

HLDS installation up to date
