CS:S server ports and listing in steam
#1
Question
Hi guys,

I managed to install a CS:S server and I got all the settings on it right, with config files, IP address, heapsize, etc. BUT when I start my server with this command:

srcds.exe -console -game cstrike +IP 10.11.12.101 -port 27015 -secure -heapsize 262144 +map cs_italy +maxplayers 12 -autoupdate

then I can connect to it through my local network, but I don't see it listed in the steam game browser, nor on gametiger.net and if I try to add it with the WAN IP of my router then it does not work, also the connect command in the console does not work. Only local IP works fine.

I have even put the server in the DMZ and/or forwarded all ports from 27000 to 27040 (TCP and UDP) to the local IP. No luck!
I have currently no firewall enabled, in case you wonder.

And when the server starts it creates the following start message:
Quote:Console initialized.
Attempted to create unknown entity type event_queue_saveload_proxy!
Game .dll loaded for "Counter-Strike: Source"
maxplayers set to 12
Executing dedicated server config file
Error: Material "sprites/bubble" : proxy "AnimatedTexture" not found!
Server logging enabled.

ss\cstrike") (version "2279")
L 02/13/2005 - 03:04:57: server_cvar: "sv_voiceenable" "0"
Adding master server 69.28.151.178:27011
Adding master server 207.173.177.12:27011

Might it be that it has something to do with the error message?

Maybe some of you can try to connect to it and let me know if it works for you. Because I read in some threads that it might be because the server and the client are on the same WAN IP and therefore I could not connect throuht the WAN IP.

The name of the server address is:

in.kicks-ass.net

One last thing, I read through this forum all night long and I found several information about which ports I should forward, but none of them seems to work. Maybe one of you who has a server working behind a router could post me his configuration.

Thanks a lot for your help

They're not lying.

If you have a static IP (in this case 67.137.156.126) you can add it to your 'hosts' file. In Windows you can find it under 'C:WINDOWSsystem32driversetc' where you should find a file named 'hosts'. There should be a piece of text which is commented; it tells you how to add IP's to the file.

You just need to do this: under the commented lines you begin a new line where you enter your local IP, being 192.168.0.104. Then you put at least one space after it (or a tab, or several of them - the amount makes no difference) and after that space you type the WAN IP; 67.137.156.126.

If you have a dynamic IP you can make an account on no-ip.org or dyndns.org (read the documentation on the websites) and add an URL from one of those websites (which you created with your account) and put that in the 'hosts' file instead of the global IP. You can do this too if you have a static IP, it could be a bit more secure.

Thanks for the info... I will check it with some friends.
Is it not supposed to be listed under gametiger.net in any way?
EDIT: Okay, I got this part sorted, friends can see the server, but only when I put it in the DMZ of the server, therefore I would really like to get the forwarding sorted.

And one thing is still not clear, I found differnet information about port forwarding and dont know which one is the right one and it is hard to test as I can not see me own server in the list.

Quote:UDP 1200 (Friends Network)
UDP 27000 to 27015 (Gameport)
UDP 27020
TCP 27030 to 27039
TCP: 27015 (SRCDS Rcon port)

Quote:Q: I am behind a firewall or router. What ports need to be opened or forwarded for hlds?
A:
UDP: 27015 (default HLDS & SRCDS port)
UDP: 27020 (default HLTV port)
TCP: 27015 (SRCDS Rcon port

Quote:The port you choose for your server has to be forwarded to ur server UDP AND!!! TCP.
Also u need to forward port 1200 UDP/TCP

example
UDP 27015
TCP 27015
UDP 1200
TCP 1200

So which information is correct?

Thanks
