Game Download

I typed this: hldsupdatetool -update "Counter-Strike Source" . <Username> <Password> Y

And the download is stuck right here:

Downloading: .\hl2\sound\npc\fast_zombie\claw_strike3.wav

Anyone have any ideas?

**Edit - Its now been sitting at this same place for a little over 30 minutes. I really don't want to start the download all over again since I'm 2 hours into the process.

**Edit Part 2 - RESOLVED: I deleted the ClientRegistry.blob file and restarted the download. Its running again as expected.

I have tha same problem, but after deleting the clientreg.blob I re-started the install and it hung on:

xxx\dod\sprites\mapmarkers\number_three.spr

?? did you have this prob?

Can anyone help please, this is my forth attempt to re-install DoD server.

I've had a server for a couple of years now, never seen this one??

By this I guess you mean some instruction on BIT TORRENT?

I did a search in the forums, only this posts contains anything regarding "torrent".

If you do have a solution though, I am ready to give it a try.

What i mean is it makes sense to have another download source rather than steam; which has its problems occasionally.
Packaging a server and peering as a torrent would give people an alternate download source.

Just a thought.

Such a thing would take a massive effort from many source related websites to keep torrent links updated and for actual people to seed to 100% so that the file doesnt die.

But how can I be sure that my update is "non corrupt"?

I re-ran the update tool after, and it reported all ok.

Apparently there is a bug in the hldsupdatetool that sometimes causes it to miss files during an update. The only known solution right now is to run hldsupdatetool several times to ensure the update was performed correctly.

The torrent idea is certainly a good one. I wonder whether Valve would back it. I suspect they might be a bit hesitant with the current paranoia they've shown regarding peer to peer file sharing.

Still maybe one day it'll happen .

True, but since the DS is a free download it can only help to reduce Valve's bandwidth bill and means customers who pay for the games will get better download speeds and/or more availability. And since valve seem to be very community oriented they could also think its a good idea

Remember what it was like trying to download the last update when bots were released?
Took us 2 days to get all our servers updated.

Actually to your first question there, if your download gets stuck you can exit the DOS window and redo the update command in another DOS window. The download will verify all the files it has already receieved and then it will continue downloading from there. I know this from experince (It has happened to me).

You don't need to delete the clientregistry.blob

Actually, I did restart the download several times and it still got hung on the same file.
