Min sys requirements to host
#1
Question
Hey, I was curious what the minimum system requirements would be to host a counter strike source server?

I have an old 450 MHz, 256 mb RAM, PII computer, which would normally work fine for cs 1.6, but how would it run hosting source?

When hosting, does the game actually use the system resources of the hosting machine? Or is the server more of a way just for other people to connect together?

Thanks for the input!

Well, i do know that the server does use resources, that's why you see people talking about Giga this...and Dual this... CS:Source, to my understanding, is not a P2P game, it requires servers to use resources.

I am running the server with 10 players pretty well with a 566 Celeron w/ 256 mb of RAM. My connection is 5M/768K.

He means that the server is used for people to get together in a game, he doesn't actually means anything like P2P I think.

The game running on a client doesn't use the server's resources for running the game itself. The server is used to send players' locations etc. to other players (and for emulating bots and so on), for that its resources will be used.

I hope you understand this explanation, if it's not clear to you just give a shout here Wink.
May the Source be with you...
