custom map problems
#1
I downloaded the dedicated server app for Windows, placed my custom map into the map folder and connected to the server but it states the that map differs from the server. I removed the map from my game folder including the .ain file for that map and it redownloaded the map but it still stated that the map differs. I restarted my computer (which has both the game and the server) and tried it again but the problem still happens. Also removed the map (.bsp, .ztmp, .ain files) from the server and readded the .bsp file to the server and restarted it with no success. The map is not greater then 18MB (only 6MB) and had a friend run his dedicated server with the same map but it is still causing the same problem. I am able to play on the map if I create a server (LAN) in game. I have tried to find a similar problem with no success, sorry since I am new at this and might have searched the wrong thing. All of the stock maps work properly.
My system is a dual core AMD, my primary HDD is a raptor, 2 gigs of ram, Windows XP w/SP2 latest updates, game=DoD source.

My map has no custom textures or models. A friend is able to play the map on their computer using the ingame create server mode (LAN server) but when I run the dedicated server I am unable play the map since it states the map differs from the server version. I had my friend start a dedicated server and he was getting the message that the version was different from the one on the server.

use the newest version on the server, delete the version on your client pc (or just rename the server version). The clients should then download the server version.

The map that i am using is a map that I made. I only have the one version. I sent that version to my friend and he tried to connect to his personal dedicated server and it was giving him the same error. I tried to remove the map from my steam folder all together including the .cache but it was still giving me the same problem after I downloaded it from the server. The reason that I am asking this question on the dedicated server forum and not a map forum is when I take that map and run it from my ingame create a server (the LAN server) it runs without any problem. It is just when I try to run it on a dedicated server.

Well I have basically given up on this problem. I searched map forums with no luck. Consider this a dead post unless something strange happens and I find a fix. I will still be willing to accept help, just that I will only check back in my extremly spare time or unless the fix comes to me.

Any luck with this? I recently created a map and I'm having the EXACT same problem. I resaved the vmf file as a different name, recompiled, recreated the nav file, uploaded the bsp and nav to the server, and even tried to make my machine download the server copy be moving the bsp and nav from my maps directory. Nothing works. Even when friends who's computers have never had the map download it for the first time, it gives them the same error. I am thinking there must be a problem with the map, but it gives me no errors when it compiles and it works if I host a game over the LAN... just like yours machine. I am at a loss because all support/answers/faqs say that my map must be older than the version the server had, but that is impossible because I created the map and there's only one version in existence... <shrug>
