Interested in setting up a server

Hello everyone,

I have a server that I rent, which currently has about 205Gb of disk space and 2 Terabytes (2,192 GB) of bandwidth. I'm interested in setting up a server, so I can play against friends privately, and more importantly, can add one more reliable server to the list of servers.

I'm pretty sure the servers run on Linux... How would I go about setting this up? I've dabbled with PHP/Linux etc but I am pretty incompetent when it comes to setting up third-party scripts on my server.

If anyone could explain this process to me, that would be awesome.
