Nobody can connect - Weird IP problem
#1
Recently i tried hosting my server on my computer again and only i can connect, i have sv_lan and region set to the right stuff, all the good stuff. I noticed something weird, both computers on my network have the same IP. I have my router DMZing the computer hosting the server and i've tried port forwarding.

Today, i tried something new and connected to a different router. My ip changed and the server worked fine... for the first time people were joining my server from the outside.

Only one problem... my connection to this new router was horrible - over a block away. The lag was annoying and i need to fix the IP problem (same ip as the other computer on my network) because i think thats why it wont work correctly.

Router: Linksys WRT54G v5 Latest firmware
Router i connected to when it worked. A belkin 54G

Please help.

Router Setup

Go there, and follow the simple steps. it SHOULD work after that. I have this same router and this site saved me a few times. I made the page availible offline Smile

I don't mean the IP assigned by my router, its the one my isp gives me

Now ppl can connect, but it isn't showing up in the list, they can only connect if i tell them my IP.

try typing these things in server.cfg

sv_lan 0
sv_lan 0
heartbeat
heartbeat

and maybe also in the console when server is started. that worked for me.
When you server starts, does it say: Bad challenge from (some.ip.from.steam) ?
If it does, the heartbeat command will make it try again.. (Im pretty sure)

well, firstoff, Linksys routers suck. i used to have one for my servers and had worlds of trouble.(then i switched to netgear) Secondly if its a port forwarding /ip addinging thing (which linksys has prollems with) try going to portforward.com and it tells you how to setup any router for any game (case specific...kinda useful). it helps you setup a static ip and gets you to forward things correctly out of the router for the game so it can be visible to the public
