autoupdate for dedicated source server
#1
hello all -

I have a dedicated source server running on Windows and I am trying to configure it to autoupdate whenever there are new patches/fixes from Steam. Sometimes I don't play for a few days and the server is no accessible until I run the update.

I have the following when starting my server and I thought the -autoupdate would take care of that.

-game cstrike -console +ip 72.51.41.12 -port 27015 +maxplayers 32 +map de_dust2 -tickrate 66 -autoupdate

Any help to have the server autoupdate would be greatly appreciated.

I can manually update it with no issues, but would be nice not to have to worry about the new updates when they come out.

Thanks all!

autoupdate wont work with windows.

If you have root access you can set a scheduled task to update every morning (shutdown server first, can be done with serverchecker).

Don't forget you have to update mods very often after VALVe updates.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I don't access to the physical box to run any scheduled tasks. Also I did find out (the hard way), that Valve updates breaks the mods or changes the gameinfo.txt file so the mods don't all work.

Thanks again, hopefully Valve will fix it so Windows servers can autoupdate via the command line.

They are all working, I just have to add the line for the meta mod in the gameinfo.txt.

I only run mani-mod, glittermod, and metamod (required for glittermod).

I use the same line above, can you capture the beginning of the output when you run that and post it here?

When you run the update, it opens a new windows or runs within the command window you have. Can you cut and paste that info here?
