What about this P4 3GHz ?
#1
Hi,

What do you think about this box ?

P4 3GHz
512MB DDR
100Mb up/dwn
Debian sarge (or slack if needed)

What i want is to run a REAL 100tick match server without any fps drop, whithout seeing my tickrate going down. A real real 100 tick.
How many slots will i be able to run on this box ?
Thanks a lot for your answers

2 x 12 slots, but you cant use that many mods and frequently have to reboot servers to save RAM (512 mb isn't that much).

Thanks for your reply.
This is really great, because i only need one servers, so maybe a 14 or 16 slots, without mods, whitout mani etc ...
When you say i have to frequently reboot my server, one reboot per day is enough or you mean something like a reboot every 3 hours ?
Is Slackware really better than Debian to run an srcds ? (that's what i've read ...)

what if he were to have a gig of ram (on centos 4.4) how much do you think it could handle?

Best to run on is windows, rebooting once a day.

why would you prefer a windows server over linux?

Because VALVe games are build for windows, load is lower and setup and maintance is easier.

Hmm it could be debatable.

windows overhead is higher than that of linux.

right now i run constantly 2 12 slot servers 100 tick (css) on a 3 ghz 1 gig of ram. both servers run fine (tested when both are filled)
I'm considering putting another server on ths machine but it's hard to get accurate statistics on what I need more of (cpu or ram). my current server load logging system isn't 100% accurate. I think my next step is to ditch this server though and maybe get one of those dual core or dual proccessor servers with a bunch of ram.

No it's not, for VALVe games it's a fact.
