srcds.exe won't run

I have just used steams HLdsupdate tool to get counter strike source dedicated server.

When I try to fire srcds.exe it immediately stops (appears in my proccess list for about .5 a second).

The macine I am testing CSS on is just a dual 800Mhz P3 with 512MB Ram running Windows 2000 Server.

What can I do?

are your running it from a batch file like the instructions on the main page say or just double-clicking on it? because doing the latter won't work.

I was using this at the command prompt:

c:\srcds\srcds.exe -console -game cstrike +map de_dust -maxplayers 16 -autoupdate

cool, you're doing it the right way then, try putting a -debug at the end of your startup line then check the log file that is generated when it hangs.
