SRCDS Steam group

[solved] Help please
#1
i have followed various howtoos on getting a Linux srcds running and i am having issues the biggy being how do i get it so people can see it?

If i use the ip address 192.168.0.5 the defualted dhcp supplied ip for the server all seems well and the game runs and bots to stupid things like bomb dropping etc, but nobody can see the game either locally on the lan of through steam.

If i use my external IP address (as suggesed in the steampowered forum) igget the following error messages.

Code:
Console initialized.
Game.dll loaded for "Counter-Strike: Source"
maxplayers set to 32
maxplayers set to 14
WARNING: NNET_OpenSocket: bind: Cannot assign requested address
Couldn't allocate dedicated server UDP port
cat: hlds.26066.pid: No such file or directory
email debug.log to linux@valvesoftware.com
Wed Sep 27 19:45:27 BST 2006: Server restart in 10 seconds

Dunno what that means and how to correct it. I am so close i can touch it but so far away its painful.

Suggestions warmly welcomed and fully appriciated

(btw i am running Ubuntu 6.06 LTS 9dapper Drake))

Many thanks

Who ever recommended you use your external IP is a moron. Your computer has no access to it other than to ping it, no applications can bind to it when behind a router.

if no one can see it outside its because you don't have your ports forwarded. also are you runing any firewalls?

the extranl ip is whats suggested at steampowered forum and i though it odd.

So i have set the server into my routers DMZ (temp measure) and still no joy. The iptables that are Ubuntu's firewall confuse the nuggets out of me. i have also cluelessly fumbled with Firestarter as well but still no joy.

Is there a command to disable Iptables in ubuntu as i have had no joy finding them in there forum.
